Various studies indicate that there are specific characteristics or "risk factors" that contribute to and increase the chances a woman may develop Breast Cancer. "Risk factors" are not causal. This means that Breast Cancer is not caused or induced by "risk factors"- most women with Breast Cancer exhibit no known "risk factors" other than simply being women. "Risk factors" instead are variables associated with a specific illness that indicate the probability and susceptibility one has to developing that illness. In the case of Breast Cancer, these signs can help a woman to be more aware of her overall health and encourage her to maintain regular checkups which ultimately lead to early detection and increased chances of curability.
One such "risk factor" includes obesity which can be countered and controlled by a structured exercise regimen and healthy eating habits. To encourage such initiatives, the Breast Cancer Foundation in Egypt annually hosts its "Sports Day" in March at the Al-Jazeera Club. Participants include:
- Breast Cancer Survivors
- Club Members
- Athletes
- University, School, and Bank Teams
- Foreign Ambassadors
- Actors/Actresses
- Members of the National and International Media
- Various Sponsor Representatives
- Friends & Families
Everyone comes out to support this campaign for Breast Cancer awareness and Women's Health. Our objectives are to show the importance of exercising, maintaining a healthy body weight, and including routine breast exams in the complete medical checkup promoting early detection and awareness of Breast Cancer.
