History
A small group of 24 founding members, Egyptians and expatriates concerned with the high incidence of breast cancer and the lack of related support services in Egypt joined together to form an organization to address the problem. Individually they represent health care professionals, breast cancer survivors, and civic spirited citizens. Collectively they are a driving force to bring breast cancer awareness, education, and services to Egyptian women.
The BCFE is an NGO registered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, registration number 5840/2004.

BCFE Mission:
The mission of the Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt is to promote breast health through breast cancer awareness, education, and research and to facilitate services and support to women in all social and economic strata.
Need:
Breast ailments have affected Egyptian women since the time of the pharaohs and can be traced back to the beginning of recorded medical history in Egypt. It still poses a significant threat to the population,. Statistics from the National Cancer Institute place breast cancer at the top of the list of all forms of cancers afflicting women and treated there.
The high incidence for breast cancer is not unique to Egypt. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States of America, however, recovery rates there are high. This is attributed to education, early detection, and good treatment. BCFE is dedicated to changing the profile of breast cancer in Egypt.
BCFE Goals:
1. Build a culturally sensitive physical and emotional support system to enhance the quality of life for women with breast cancer and their families.
2. Collect a body of statistics to support research and promote enlightened care.
3. Facilitate access to affordable and high quality professional diagnostic treatment, and rehabilitative services for women in all economic strata.
4. Educate the public about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and eradicate the stigma attached to having breast cancer.
