MY MOTHER fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56. She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was.

  

"Train for the Cure" Breaks the Barrier of Fear

The Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) held "Train for the Cure" festival at Gezira Sporting Club in collaboration with Train for Aim team (TFA). The Festival aimed to raise awareness of breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the role of sport in increasing survivor rates and reduce the chances of incidence.

  

We honor the memory of Bridget Spence

 

Bridget Spence was 21 and in her senior year of college when she discovered a lump in her breast. When she went to the doctor a few weeks later, the doctor assured her she was too young and with no family history.

 

Six months later, the lump was still there and something wasn't right. Bridget had a number of tests only to discover that she had stage IV metastatic breast cancer, with a 3 cm tumor in her liver.

  

Pink Friday for the Cure

The Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) organized the "Pink Friday for the Cure" at the Palm Hills Compound and Club House in 6 October City. The event aimed to draw attention to breast cancer, increase awareness and support breast cancer survivors.The day started with a walk at the Compound in cooperation with Curves Palm Hills with 250 participants. His Excellency Manzoor ul Haq, Ambassador of Pakistan to Egypt, and Dr. Mohamed Shaalan, Professor of Surgical Oncology, Director of the NCI Prevention and Early Detection Unit and BCFE Chairman, Dr. Norran H. Said, Breast Imaging Consultant and BCFE Executive Director, and Yasmine Hafiz, Curves Palm Hills Executive Director, inaugurated the 3 km walk with participants ranging from children, youth, adults and breast cancer survivors.

  

Your Health Matters to Us

In appreciation to every Egyptian mother, the Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) launched an awareness campaign "Your Health Matters to Us" on Mother's Day to encourage early detection and breast health. The campaign included BCFE's presence at different locations distributing educational brochures on how to maintain breast health and early detection methods.

Apache Wellness Day

As part of its health program, Apache Petroleum Company invited the Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) to its Wellness Fair that was held for Apache staff.BCFE demonstrated the importance of early detection and its role in increasing survival rates.
